Methods to Help Write Music
Have you ever wanted to write your own music but don’t know where to start? It might seem overwhelming at first, but here are some methods that have been helpful to me over the course of my music journey, which might be useful to you as well.
1. Identify Your Influences:
Figure out what your influences are. Listen to your favorite bands that you would like to sound like, and pay attention to what they write about in their lyrics. What kind of chords do they prefer? Explore these elements to gain insights into your own musical preferences.
2. Experiment with Different Approaches:
Try playing in ways you’ve never played before. It’s easy to become stuck in a loop of writing things that sound too similar to each other. Experiment with new approaches, such as using a scale you don’t normally employ or incorporating a drum groove from a completely different style of music. Challenge yourself to step outside your normal writing process.
3. Just Start Writing:
Getting started on writing is the most crucial part. Like any other musical skill you learn, it might take a lot of time and practice until you start getting results you really like. However, it’s a very rewarding process that will improve with dedication and persistence.
Those are some of the things that have helped me learn to write music! Now, go out and have fun creating your own sounds!
