Keeping Up With Music – How to Stay Motivated
There are so many fun things to do now that school is out for the summer! However, one of those things is most likely not practicing your instrument. As a former student myself, I totally understand, so don’t feel guilty if this is you! Like most hobbies and activities, playing an instrument requires tender love and care. The longer you go without playing your instrument, the more likely it is that you will forget all of the fun pieces and concepts that you have learned with your music instructor. So how can you balance having the summer of a lifetime while also consistently practicing your instrument?
1. Change up your practice schedule! Playing your instrument at different times of the day can have some very interesting results – try practicing first thing in the morning or in the middle of the afternoon.
2. Play for your friends and family! You’ll be surprised at how much fun it is to be the center of attention with your instrument. Even though it can be nerve-wracking, performing your music in front of people is an excellent way to keep motivated.
3. Challenge yourself to pieces that you’ve always wanted to play. Now that school’s out, this is the perfect time to motivate yourself with that super hard piece you’ve always wanted to try!
I hope you all find these tips helpful. Now go out and enjoy your summer! (But don’t forget to practice!)
