GET INSPIRED!
What makes you study music? What makes you practice daily (I hope you do) for your lesson? Is it your parents that encourage you to do it? Is it fear of your professor? Of course this is not applicable for SAMA professors, ha! Or is it watching your friends playing really well?
Growing up I had strict parents, a grumpy professor, and a competitive environment. However, nothing influenced and motivated me more than one experience that changed my life. I was 12 years old and I had studied piano already for some years. My dad took me to a piano concert where the pianist played Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu. I was astonished! It was an experience I will never forget. At that moment I decided I wanted to be a musician. I decided I wanted to have and produce that same kind of experience with my music. From that moment on, I needed no other motivation. I needed no pressure from my parents, professor, or friends. I would sit every day at the piano and practice out of self-motivation. I became in love with music.
Yes, studying music is tons of practice and dedication. I hope you practice not because someone else wants you to but because you want to. Whatever inspires you to do music, follow it! Practice, practice, and practice more because YOU love music!
Parents: take your kids to live performances – it’s a unique experience that just might influence their lives for the better!
