Songwriting and Recording 101
In this class, you will learn the core theory behind songwriting, why certain chord progressions fit together, and how to write a melody. You will also learn to navigate a DAW (digital audio workstation) software so that you feel comfortable recording your own music. The class materials include the recording gear needed to start your recording journey. We look forward to seeing you in class.

How much is the class tuition?
$150/month (includes recording gear package valued at $175)
What equipment is included in the class recording gear package?
Recording interface / M-Audio M-Track Solo
Recording headphones / M-Audio HDH40
MIDI keyboard / M-Audio Keystation MK3
Do I get to keep the recording package if I drop?
Students get to keep the recording gear for free after completion of 6 months in the class. If a student decides to drop before 6 months, the recording gear is still theirs to keep, but they are responsible for paying a $100 early-withdrawal penalty.
What do I need to bring to class?
You will need to bring your own laptop to class – Mac, PC, or Linux. The recording software will not work on a Chromebook.
You will download the recording software onto your personal laptop which will work with the recording package you will receive during the first lesson.
Who is the class instructor?
SAMA guitar instructor Jonathan Curtis. Mr. Curtis has extensive recording experience and knowledge developed from years of sound mixing and production. Check out some of his work here on his SoundCloud.
When does the class end?
Every 6 months, you’ll receive a new level of curriculum. You will stay continuously enrolled in the class until giving a 30-day notice to cancel, just like with private lessons.
What happens if I decide to withdraw from the class?
If you decide to withdraw from the class, please give a 30-day notice at the front desk just as you would with your private lessons. If you withdraw before the completion of 6 months in the class, there is a $100 penalty for the recording gear package which you get to keep. After the completion of 6 months in the class, the same 30-day notice is required, but there is no penalty.
