Randy Naranjo, M.S.
Guitar Instructor
Randy, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, began his musical journey in 4th grade by singing in the school choir. A year later, he joined the school orchestra and started playing the cello. After spending four years in the orchestra, Randy took up the guitar at the age of 14. He attended Del Mar College, where he studied Classical and Jazz guitar. Randy continued his music education at Texas State University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies in 2006. After his time at Texas State University, he relocated to Austin to study under guitarists Glenn Rexach and Tommy Howard.
In 2009, Randy earned a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He has since taught elementary music and middle school choir. As a performer, Randy has played with various groups, exploring different styles ranging from Classical and Jazz to Motown, Funk, and Rock.
With 23 years of teaching experience, Randy has been a faculty member at SAMA for 9 years. Despite his years of teaching, he still considers himself a student and is always eager to learn more about music and the guitar. In recent years, Randy has had the opportunity to study with guitarists Rich Severson, Sheryl Bailey, and Alex Hutchings.
Currently, Randy resides in San Antonio with his wife Cathy, their three children, and their dog and cat.
