Matt Perez, M.M., Voice Instructor

Matthew Perez, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, began his musical journey at a very young age, marked by his innate curiosity and love for music. Matt’s dedication to his craft led him to take voice lessons and participate in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State process during his high school years, laying the foundation for his future in music.

Upon graduating high school, Matt’s passion for music led him to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from 2017 to 2021. Under the mentorship of esteemed professors Dr. Susan Olson and Dr. Jourdan Howell, he honed his vocal skills and developed a deep appreciation for classical and opera style singing. His dedication and hard work paid off when he was awarded the prestigious title of UTSA Aria and Concerto Competition winner in 2021. Eager to further his musical education and expertise, he went to Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he pursued a Master of Music in Voice from 2021 to 2023. Under the guidance of Carlos Montané and Deanne Meek, he continued to refine his vocal artistry and delve deeper into the intricacies of opera.

Aside from his formal education, Matt found a passion for sharing knowledge with others during his time in vocal pedagogy classes. He embraced the role of mentor, teaching several students and inspiring them to explore their own vocal potential.

Matt’s commitment to music extends beyond the stage and the classroom. He aspires to communicate with a broader audience by delving into multiple languages. While he is currently dedicated to learning Spanish to connect with friends and family, he has also delved into French, German, and Italian, enabling him to navigate and interpret various texts in his chosen repertoire.

When not immersed in the world of music, Matt enjoys dancing and watching movies and TV shows. These diverse hobbies provide him with a well-rounded perspective that enriches his artistry and passion for music.
