San Antonio Music Academy is very well organized. My daughter's piano teacher is wonderful! She's been taking lessons for 5 months and looks forward to each lesson. I really enjoy the recitals at the LOL Comedy Club.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's different about San Antonio Music Academy?

San Antonio Music Academy has a rigorous selection process when choosing instructors to work for our academy. We want only the best on staff so that everyone involved has a positive experience with our academy. In addition to the qualifications of our instructors (each having a Bachelor’s degree or higher), we understand that student safety and respect is paramount. This is why each of our instructors takes a certified safety training program when hired in addition to the extensive background check we run. Instructors at San Antonio Music Academy understand the needs of their students and that each student has a different motivation for learning. Our passion is to take a student’s goals and make them a reality.

How long does it take to learn to play the piano?

This depends on a student’s goals. For example, if a student wants to learn to play Ode to Joy, he/she could do this in a month’s time with consistent practice. However, if they would like to learn to play Chopin’s Fantasy Impromptu, several years of piano foundation and technique must be learned before attempting something of this complexity. Some of our students ask for help with pieces they’re working on with the school jazz band. Others want help learning to play their favorite pop or classical songs. Be sure to inform your piano instructor of your personal musical goals.

What are the qualifications of your piano instructors?

San Antonio Music Academy (SAMA) takes no shortcuts when it comes to our instructors. Our piano instructors hold music degrees from accredited universities and have teaching experience working with all ages and skill levels. They are well versed in many styles including pop and classical. Scroll down to read our piano instructor bios and to see videos of our piano students.

What are your normal tuition rates?

If you continue to take piano lessons after your free two lessons, you would pay just $109/month. For 30-minute private lessons meeting once a week, the tuition is $109/month.  For 60-minute private lessons meeting once a week, the tuition is $218/month. There is a one-time membership fee of $30. We recommend beginning students to start with with 30-minute lessons.

Where is the music academy located?

We are located at the intersection of Braun and 1604 in the Braun Pointe Shopping Center. Other notable businesses within our center are Two Step Restaurant, Fast Eddie’s, and Starbucks. We are just behind Two Step Restaurant. Our address is 9910 W Loop 1604 North, Ste. 103, San Antonio, 78254.

Do you offer lessons for other instruments?

Yes, we also offer private lessons for drums, guitar, bass, voice, and violin. Unfortunately, those other instruments are not eligible for this crazy awesome deal!

Do I need to have my own piano/keyboard?

It is strongly recommended that a student have their own piano or keyboard to practice with at home as your instructor will give you weekly assignments to help you improve.  At the music academy, we have a piano in each piano lesson room, so you do not need to bring any materials to your lesson. Don’t have a keyboard yet? Here are our top recommendations for keyboards.

Do you offer music recitals?

Yes, we do! We have 3 formal recitals each year. (Take a look of some of our student performances on our Youtube channel. We’re pretty proud of them.) Recitals give students the opportunity to showcase the hard work they’ve put into learning their instrument. Sharing their work and talent with invited family and friends is a special moment for each student, which contributes to continued motivation to become an even better musician. In addition, we also have an ensemble program. Students enrolled in one of our ensemble classes are given the opportunity to perform in public venues, giving them real world performance experience.
