Veronica Lizárraga, M.M., Piano Instructor

Veronica Lizárraga was born in Baltimore, MD, and raised in Columbia until age five, when she moved to San Antonio, the city she now considers home. She began taking private and group piano lessons at the age of eight and has been playing ever since. Growing up, she competed in the National Guild Auditions, SAMTA Achievement Auditions, and Music Theory Exams. In high school, she joined band and fell in love with the world of percussion, leading her to pursue music at the collegiate level.

Veronica went on to receive two degrees from Texas State University in San Marcos; she received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2021 followed by her Master of Music in Latin Music Performance in 2023. During her studies, she received many scholarships and awards including the TMEA Fall 2021 Collegiate Music Educator Award, Patti Strickel Harrison Scholarship, Bobcat Marching Band Leadership Scholarship, Stokes Endowed Chair in Music Scholarship, Annabelle Moore & Charles W. Parvin Memorial Scholarship, and The Graduate College Scholarship of Fine Arts & Communication Scholarship.

Veronica is passionate about teaching everything from piano private lessons to drumline camps to students of all ages! She has also been a Texas UIL Region Band audition judge, presented on the history of Salsa and Latin percussion to local public schools, salsa dance studios, and University seminars, and is the current part-time percussion assistant at Eisenhower Middle School. She specializes in classical, Latin (salsa, cumbia, cha, bolero, baladas), pop, and worship styles of music.

Aside from teaching, Veronica is an active gigging musician in the San Antonio/Austin area. She plays keyboard and sings coros for Llamativa, an all-women Latina band, congas and vocals for Austin-based psychedelic cumbia band El Combo Oscuro, and auxiliary percussion for Cilantro Boombox. She has made appearances at SXSW, Pecan Street Festival, Continental Club, The Far Out Lounge, Sahara Lounge, Radio East, and more.

Beyond music, Veronica loves being active whether it’s at the gym, outside, or on the San Antonio Women’s Rugby team! She spends her free time enjoying fun activities in the city with friends and family.

San Antonio Music Academy is awesome, my son loves the guitar lessons and is super excited to attend every week! He started with zero experience and progressed surprisingly fast. Randy is an amazingly talented guitarist/teacher. He is very patient, yet knows how to push students to the next level. Highly recommend all the instructors, the staff is great!
