Mark Harrison B.M.,
Piano & Drum Instructor
Mark Harrison, a Houston native, was surrounded by music from early childhood. His mother was a high school and junior high choir director and his eldest sister a voice major. A graduate of UTSA in music composition, Mark believed, even as a young child that he could create music. But not until high school did he take his first steps in that direction. After conquering Rock Band as a drummer, he bought his own cheap drum kit and drove his dad crazy until he got him lessons. That was all it took. A year later, he had expanded his music to the piano and was teaching himself classical pieces and writing his own songs. As high school graduation approached, he finally took formal piano lessons under Dariusz Pawlas. He continued piano studies under Dr. Donald at UTSA. He also played drums in the UTSA Jazz Ensemble and played rock drums for the band Peacemaker. Today, after 9 years as a drummer and another 7 as a pianist, Mark has developed a love and appreciation for both classical piano and rock drums. When he isn’t teaching or drumming behind his band, he writes music for solo piano, string and wind ensembles, and voice. In addition to his musical skills, he is an expert in Finale music notation software, and Logic Pro, the music recording and electronic composition software. On weekends, you might find him laying down some Led Zeppelin or Queens of the Stone Age with his band at local venues. Or on lazy nights, you might encounter him on Xbox playing Halo. But beware if you do. He takes no prisoners!
